Publications

  • The South African Archaeological Bulletin (SAAB) contains editorial comment, research papers, field and technical reports, discussion papers and book reviews on archaeology in Africa. It is published twice a year, in June and December.
  • The Goodwin Series publishes specialist articles on an occasional basis. The series was started in 1972 with donations to ArchSoc in memory of its founder, John Goodwin. Ten volumes have been published to date and the 11th is in preparation.
  • The Digging Stick was first published as a newsletter in 1978 and was named The Digging Stick in 1984. Reinoud Boers, who took over as editor in 2002, has increased the size and quality through successful sponsorship.
  • The Trans-Vaal Branch of ArchSoc, based in Johannesburg, circulates Artefacts, a bi-annual publication edited by Reinoud Boers. Artefacts carries reports, written mostly by committee members, on lectures presented to the Branch and outings undertaken.
